Fast Charging Technologies: What You Need to Know

In today's world, where mobile devices have become an integral part of our everyday lives, fast and effective charging is extremely important. Whether you're using a smartphone, tablet or laptop, fast charging technology helps you save time and get the most out of your devices. In this article, we will look at the most popular charging protocols that ensure optimal performance and security of your equipment. Find out how they work and which one best suits your needs.

Fast charging protocols

A charging protocol is a set of standards and technical specifications used to manage the charging process of electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and electric vehicles. Charging protocols are designed to ensure optimal battery performance, reduce charging times and improve device safety during the charging process.

Fast charging is possible thanks to the use of advanced charging protocols such as Quick Charge, Adaptive Fast Charging, VOOC, Dash Charge and many others. However, one of the most popular fast charging protocols is the USB Power Delivery (PD) protocol, which is a universal standard for charging smartphones, laptops and other electronic devices.

This has become a key feature for modern devices that require high battery capacity to extend usage time. Fast charging can help devices get up to 50% charge in just 30 minutes, which is a significant improvement over the standard charging rate of 10-15% per hour.

Programmable Power Supply (PPS)

Programmable Power Supply (PPS) is an advanced charging technology dedicated to devices using USB-C. PPS dynamically adjusts voltage and current in real time, delivering optimal power based on the current battery state of charge.

Added to the USB PD 3.0 standard in 2017 by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), PPS technology allows data to be exchanged every 10 seconds. Thanks to this, the device and charger can constantly adjust charging parameters, which increases efficiency and reduces the amount of heat generated during the process, extending battery life.

The biggest advantage of PPS is the reduction of conversion losses, which translates into less heating of the device and thus a longer battery life cycle.

Power Delivery (PD)

USB-C Power Delivery (PD) is a technology that offers much higher charging power than standard solutions. It is supported by both Apple and Android devices, including models from Google and Samsung. With a power of up to 240 W, PD allows you to quickly charge larger devices such as tablets or laptops, which eliminates the need to carry heavy power supplies with you.

PPS and PD technologies can work together, renegotiating optimal charging parameters depending on the device's needs.

Quick Charge (QC)

Quick Charge is one of the most popular fast charging technologies that allows you to replenish energy in mobile devices much faster. Thanks to this, this technology is found in many modern smartphones

The latest solutions, such as Quick Charge 4+ and Quick Charge 5, offer even better possibilities. Quick Charge 4+ works with USB Power Delivery, which allows you to quickly charge a wider range of devices. In turn, Quick Charge 5 can charge a smartphone up to 50% in just 5 minutes, which is a huge breakthrough in the field of charging.

Quick Charge technology is compatible with devices equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors.
